Robert J. Courtney Student Leadership Award

Award Information

The South Dakota Higher Education Association (SDHEA) takes pride in developing tomorrow’s leaders.  To honor of one of our own leaders in campus life, the Robert J. Courtney Student Leadership Award was established.  Bob enjoyed a career in student affairs that spanned over 31 years; he was a member of SDHEA (formerly known as SDCPA) for 25 of those years.  This award recognizes one student annually who demonstrates leadership excellence within their institution and community. We are now accepting nominations for the 2019 recipient of the Robert J. Courtney Student Leadership Award. The deadline for submission is January 12, 2019 at 5:00 PM. Criteria

The following criteria must be met for eligible candidates:

1. Candidates must be a full-time student currently enrolled in a South Dakota post-secondary institution.
2. Candidates must demonstrate significant contributions to student life through volunteer student representation, campus and/or committee involvement, student organization leadership, residence hall leadership or athletic leadership and/or participation.
3. Candidates must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the time of nomination (academic performance/achievement will be considered as part of the criteria for this award).  
4. Candidates are eligible to receive this award only once.

1. Nominations for this award will be solicited from all post-secondary institutions in South Dakota.
2. Selection of the award recipient will be determined by a committee of at least three SDHEA members.
3. The award will be presented at the 2018 SDHEA Annual Conference in Deadwood SD.
